Principles of the Constitution

Thursday September 29, 2011 – Periods 1 & 3
Friday September 30, 2011 – Periods 4 & 6

We signed up for student groups which will present a 3-5 minutes video teaching/reviewing the class about a government topic.  The best video between Mr. Pate and Mr. Tamashiro’s classes for each topic will earn extra credit and be put on the class channel for Youtube.

Today we learned how the principles of self-government and limited government are embodied in the Constitution. The U.S. Constitution is divided into three parts—the Preamble, the articles, and the amendments. The Constitution rests on six major principles of government: popular sovereignty, federalism, separation of powers, checks and balances, judicial review, and limited government.

For the remainder of class we worked on completing our Principles of the Constitution worksheet. On the worksheet, students identified as many principles as they believe were exemplified by the  article, section, and clause of the Constitution and provide a short explanation of why those principles apply.
